Top Google’s Tools which are Killing Big Competitors like Midjourney, Runway Gen, Pika Labs and many others.
There was a time when midjourney, pikalabs, Grammerly and other tools were trending in the market for their innovation but nowadays only Google is trending and the AI tools which Google is launching on a frequent basis.
Google has transitioned from a search monopolist to an omnipresent AI ecosystem provider. Why am I saying this? We will discuss all things in this article.
We will discuss which Google’s AI tool is killing which competitors and how it is killing it in detail. Google is systematically dismantling competition not merely through superior innovation, but through a strategy of "aggressive experimentation" & "ecosystem envelopment."
I have done this research by analyzing Google's portfolio of tools which are currently hosted within Google Labs & its broader AI ecosystem (outside of Google Labs). And I see a clear pattern emerge.
Google is leveraging its huge data infrastructure, own hardware (TPUs), & massive distribution network (Workspace, Android, Chrome) to release "experimental" tools that directly copy the core value propositions of standalone startups. This report analyzes various tools, contrasting them with incumbent competitors, and details the specific tactical mechanisms (ranging from pricing pressure to vertical integration) that Google employs to erode competitor market share.
Furthermore, we will explore the future trajectory of this dominance to illustrate the potential societal endgame of such centralized control.
2. Comprehensive Tool Analysis: The Arsenal of "Labs"
I will not talk about Gemini and AI Studio we all know that but we will talk about some other tools which are causing disruption or can cause future disruption in the AI Field and cause real pain for the competitors
Google has Google Labs which is a playground for "experiments".It effectively functions as a low-risk environment to train models on user interactions but also simultaneously undercutting paid services offered by competitors.
Let’s discuss about major tools of Google’s Lab
(Note that these tools are currently in experimental phase and by the time you read this article there might be a chance that you will not find the mentioned tools or also chances that you might find some new tools)
Tool 1: Google Veo (VideoFX & Flow)
Used for: Video Generation
Tool Overview:
- Google’s view can be accessible via many places, the thing is Google has integrated Veo with many of tools such as Gemini, Flow, NotebookLM, Pomellie, Doppl, Google Ads etc
- But you have to note that each of these tool has different system instruction for Google’s Veo for example in Flow this Veo is used to make continuous long video content, while in NotebookLM it is used for explanatory video content and for Pomellie it is used for Short Social Media Type Video Generation
Where to use it?
- Gemini (Highly Recommended)
- Flow (Recommended)
- Google’s AI Studio (Recommended)
- Google Ads
- Pomellie
- NoteBookLM
Competitors Killed: Runway, Pika Labs, Open AI Sora, Luma Dream Machine, Kling AI and many
How is it killing Competitors?
- To see how it is killing the competitors you have to check below comparison table. As you can see Veo is Free (bundled) and giving one of the best features compared to other competitors
- This FREE tier Video Generation is actually killing most of the competitors because startups in the generative video space face massive compute costs (inference for video is exponentially more expensive than text). They must pass these costs to users via expensive subscription tiers otherwise they can not survive for a longer run.
- Currently many tools provide only Video generation without Native sound so user has to generate Video in one tool and corresponding audio in other tool But Google is providing both.
Competitive Landscape: Veo vs. The Field
| Feature | Google Veo (Flow/VideoFX) | Runway Gen-3 Alpha | Pika Labs (Pika 1.5) | OpenAI Sora |
| Resolution | 1080p+ (Upscalable to 4K) | 720p/1080p | 1080p | 1080p+ |
| Audio Generation | Native & Synchronized (Veo 3) | Limited / Separate Tool | Sound Effects Only | Limited |
| Consistency | High (Physics aware, "Ingredients") | High (Gen-3) | Moderate | Very High |
| Workflow | Node-based Scene Builder (Flow) | Timeline (Gen-3) | Discord/Web | N/A (Closed Beta) |
| Cost | Free/Bundled (Currently) | Credit System ($15-95/mo) | Credit System ($10-60/mo) | N/A |

Tool Overview:
- It is Google’s State of the Art Text to Image generation tool. Ofcaurse we all know what is text to image generation model. Ou provide text and it will create image accordingly we have used these kind of models earlier from Chat GPT, Ideogram, Midjourny, Stock Photo Agencies etc
- Again this is integrated in various Google Tools such as Google AI Studio, NotebookLM, Whisk, Pomellie etc. You can see below table why Google’s Model is far better than competitors
Where to use it?
- Gemini (Highly Recommended)
- Google’s AI Studio (Recommended)
- Pomellie
- Whisk
- NoteBookLM (Specially for Infographic and Text inside the image)
- Google Ads
Competitors Killed: ChatGPT Image Generation, Midjourney, Ideogram, and many other Stock Photo Generation Startups
How is it killing Competitors?
- Again FREE tier is one of the reason which is killing all competitors but people are not looking for FREE thing only
- Google’s Image model is far more superior than any other model. It can understand the image, it can analyze the image, it can analyze the text in the image, the objects in the image and accordingly it can edit the image exactly following the prompt. (Thanks to integration with Gemini)
- Prompt following is one of the factors which Google’s Image model is doing best.
- It can analyze multiple images simultaneously.
- It can properly generate Text inside the image without (majorly) errors. (Another Good reason which is killing competitors)
- It can edit multiple objects from different images into single image following exact the same prompt
- It can find the pace from the image (thanks to integration with Google Maps and Gemini)
- We will discuss all use cases of Google’s Imagen later in another article. But I guess these reasons are enough to explain you why it is killing competition.
Data Point: Reports suggest Google’s internal cost per image with the "Nano Banana" model is approximately $0.039, nearly 95% cheaper than the unit economics of startups relying on OpenAI APIs or standard GPU cloud rentals. This price disparity allows Google to treat image generation as a commodity feature rather than a standalone product.
Competitive Landscape: ImageFX vs. Midjourney and other
| Feature | Google ImageFX / Imagen 3 | Midjourney v6 | DALL-E 3 (ChatGPT) |
| Interface | Web UI with "Expressive Chips" | Discord Command Line | Conversational Chat |

Which Marketing Tactics Google is Using to Kill Competitors?
Google is suffocating competition, above mentioned are not just random products but they are calculated market maneuvers designed to leverage Google’s monopoly power.
Tactic 1: Zero Click & Zero Cost Strategy
Targeting Content Publishers, SEO Tools and Wrapper Startups.
- Google uses AI Overviews and Tools like NotebookLM to answer queries or process data on Google’s Platform
- Traffic Erosion: Stack Overflow questions dropped 78% YoY in 2025 due to the rise of AI code assistants like Jules and Gemini.
Tactic 2: Model Garden & Infrastructure Subsidization
Targeting AI Infrastructure Startups like Hugging Face, Specialized Model Hosts, Runway
- Google offer Vertex AI and Google Labs as default deployment environment and by controlling TPU chips and Cloud Google can offer very very low inference cost which no startups can match for long run
- Cost Efficiency: Google's unit economics for image generation are approximately 95% cheaper than OpenAI-wrapper startups ($0.039 vs $0.50).
Tactic 3: Ecosystem Bundling (Bundling Many tools at affordable cost)
Targeting lots of enterprise SaaS (Loom, Jasper, Zoom, Slack etc)
- Google is integrating Image, Text, Video, Infographic Generation in many of the existing Google AI tools which is creating a proper ecosystem for any company and which is good for businesses to buy all tools at one single cost which works seamlessly rather than integrating various tools of different brands which might have compatibility issues
- For example A CFO will not approve a $20/month/user Loom subscription if "Google Vids" is already free in the company plan. The same tactic Microsoft used with Teams to kill Slack.
Tactic 4: Rapid Experimentation
Targeting Innovative Startups
As we all know Google has huge resources in terms of People as well as Finance as well as infrastructure.
Launching dozens of tools rapidly without the need for perfection at free of cost will make people use those tools more. Even if Google’s tool is 70% efficient it will discourage startups to create that kind of tool
Other Evidence why Google is Killing Every Competitors
- Zero-Click Crisis: In Europe, 60% of Google searches now end without a click, starving downstream publishers of traffic and revenue.
- Market Share Shift: While ChatGPT leads with 59% share, Google Gemini has rapidly captured 18.2% (growing fast) by leveraging Android/Workspace distribution, proving the "distribution > product" theorem.
- Stock Impact: Chegg stock dropped ~50% in a single day following the wide release of AI chat tools, attributing the loss directly to students shifting to AI for homework help.
Future Prediction of AI Hegemony
Let's be clear, If an AI agent can navigate the web for you then the UI of Booking.com will become irrelevant. Google will become the only interface that users will see. The web will become a headless database for Google AI Agents
Users will then stop searching and start commanding for example; just like we saw in Avengers Ironman commanding Jarvis to Book a Trip Ticket or Write an Email.
Later on all the explosions of AI startups will burst and the market will consolidate around 2-3 massive ecosystems such as Google, Microsoft, Meta. Middle class tech companies which offer a single utility feature will evaporate.
I can resemble this future with the movie Matrix where Google’s Agents are the Agent Smiths and can browse anything Your Desktop (Yes Google is creating operating systems: Its my wild Guess), Android Devices and Smart Devices and Humans’s constant interaction and recaptcha is (Data) providing Battery.
If you want to learn more you can check out my other article about How Google will Bear 90% of the Competitors
Some one will wonder what about the remaining 13% of competitors. Well I guess those will remain for a few decades but after that those will eventually wipe out or will be absorbed by a single entity.
Just like those scifi movie where only single firm dominates whole world! Yes I guess we are heading towards it unless every country takes strict legal action against it by ANTIcompetition Laws. But I don't think any government is taking this seriously.
What will happen to humanity? Well there are wild guesses such as if you have seen Ideocracy (humanity will become dumber and dumber solely depending upon AI or Very intelligent AI like Matrix or Ultron from Avengers 2. That is also another day discussion
