In the initial stage of Artificial Intelligence there were lots of chatbots and generative AI toys. We all know that Open AI was the first one to bring the working LLM model Chat GPT which we call AI nowadays. But now we are entering the phase where Google will be the only Monopoly which will dominate by the end of this decade. Other companies will be there but people will majorly use Google’s AI just like the Google Search Engine dominates over all search engines the same way people will use Google’s AI in future for majority of their work.

I think that "Google will always beat ChatGPT and all AI LLMs". Why do I think that? Let’s discuss it further.

In this article we will evaluate Google’s monopoly by granular examination of

  1. Gemini 3 and Veo against competitors like Open AI’s GPT & Sora 2, Chinese Open source models like DeepSeek and Qwen.
  2. We will analyze the long term strategic value of Google’s own custom silicon TPU roadmap and the quantum computing breakthrough with Willow chip
  3. The data reservoir of google which is Search, youtube and Android.

And we will see that Google is uniquely positioned to establish hegemony and somehow this will enable Google to become the Operating System for the AI world.

While Open AI is pushing itself to build a product business on the top of rented cloud infrastructure; Google is integrating intelligence as a zero marginal cost utility across the stack which are used by billions of users. Google has systematically closed every capability gap while leveraging a hardware advantage of Tensor Processing Unit (TPU) which allows it to deploy these capabilities at a unit cost significantly lower than any of the rivals which generally depend on Nvidia GPUs.

The rise of the sovereign AI models from China paradoxically strengthened Google’s position in western market. Because as Geo Political pressure deepens between the US and China “Security” becomes as important as Technical things. Fortune 500 corp. And western governments are not using cost efficient Chinese models due to Data Privacy Concerns.

While Microsoft and Open AI are facing massive infrastructure delays, Google’s self funded infrastructure positions it as the solitary harbor for enterprise AI.

Let’s discuss each step by step.

1. Ecosystem Singularity: From Search to Ambient Intelligence

Google's long term dominance is not predicted by only the smartest model they have launched. The rem Ambient Intelligence suggests that the most successful AI will be the one that invisibly augments the actions you are talking about. Google’s strategy has shifted from treating AI as a single product to embedding it as an omnipresent utility layer across its billion user products such as Search, Youtube, Maps, Android and Workspace.

1.1 The Android Integration: The Edge Inference Monopoly

The first barrier to entry for any AI competitor is the operating system. With the release of Android 16, Google has fundamentally altered the mobile landscape by integrating Gemini Nano directly into the operating system’s core architecture, which is known as AICore. It is not a pre-installed app but it is a system level service that enables the AI model to directly access the device’s hardware acceleration and data streams.

Gemini Nano runs on-device like Pixel & Samsun by bypassing the latency and cost of cloud inference for high-frequency tasks with the help of Neural Processing Units called NPUs.

This is Google's "local AI" monopoly. This enables Google to do real-time call screening, instant summarization of notifications, and on-device image manipulation all are executed with zero latency & total privacy. Gemini becomes the native intelligence layer for 3 billion active android users

Below is the table why OS integrated AI is better than Over the Top AI Apps

FeatureGoogle (Android + Gemini Nano)OpenAI (ChatGPT App)Strategic Implication
Latency<10ms (On-Device NPU)500ms+ (Cloud API)Google dominates real-time interactions.
PrivacyLocal Data ProcessingData sent to CloudEnterprise/Gov preference for Google.
ContextSystem-wide (Screen, Notifs)App-siloedGoogle sees "what you do," OpenAI only sees "what you type."
CostNear Zero (User Hardware)High (Cloud GPU)Google scales for free, OpenAI pays for every user.
Distribution3 Billion Devices (Native)~200M Users (Download)Default bias drives massive market share.

Why this matter?

Google is giving incentives to Third-party developers to use Gemini Nano APIs via ML Kit GenAI interfaces rather than bundling their own models (which generally would bloat app size & drain battery). This creates a developer ecosystem similar to Google Play Services. OpenAI cannot replicate this without its own hardware or operating system.

1.2 Google Maps: Contextualizing the Physical World

In 2025 updates to Google Maps integrated Gemini which totally transformed navigation from 2D routing to contextual exploration. You think this is just the small update right? No it is not. This creates a dataset that no LLM competitor possesses. Let’s see how

As we know that after the Gemini integration there is an option called "Ask About Place". This feature allows users to query locations for qualitative data such as "Is this the good place to hangout with family in late nights like 2 AM during monsoon?" or "Does this manufacturer have the sensor operated Doorlock?”

Now to analyze these kinds of questions and provide answers Google analyzes thousands of user reviews and the photos which are uploaded by users and owners for details (like Late Night Pictures or Family Friendly Audience Reviews, Sensor images), Google also adds historical traffic data as per the timing and season and weather. This functionality creates Google’s own dataset of the real physical world; the real data that matters. On the other hand OpenAI’s and other models are trained on internet text which creates hallucinations when a user asks about the real-time physical world. Meanwhile other models cannot look inside a building or know is this the place really family friendly at 2 AM in monsoon?.

Whenever a user asks counter questions it creates the data loop which is self reinforcing. In those questions and answers Google collects more specific data, which refines the output furthermore which widens the gap against competitors who are blind in the real physical world.

Google integrated Lens with Gemini which enables a visual search where users can point their camera anything and receive an immediate. Well this is the future of the Search “The Multimodal Augmented Reality” and Google has no competitor in this segment.

Integrating all of these enables Google to constantly get new images, new reviews and new data about the real physical world; again Google is getting a continuous flow of new data set to train itself while other competitors are dependent on the fixed dataset their dataset gets updated whenever the company updates it this is not a continuous flow.

1.3 The Workspace Lock-In: The "Side Panel" Habit

As I am writing this article in January 2026, Google has integrated Gemini with almost 95% of Google Workspace accounts. This integration enables users various tools such as Coding Assistance, Writing Assistance, Sheet Analysis and Summarization, etc.

For example;

  1. Users can easily write emails
  2. Users can summarize emails
  3. Users can easily summarize the Docs
  4. Users can create PPT slides

All of these happens without the user leaving the browser and which reduces the effort of users on the other hand Chat GPT, Claude and other AI lacks this.

What Decision makers think “Why should we pay separate Chat GPT and the Enterprise tools subscription if Google provides both as a single bundle?”

It is a classic monopoly tactic used by many brands. A famous Indian example is Reliance Jio; all other companies were giving separate recharges for Data & Call and Messages but Jio gave a full plan in a single bundle at lower cost. Which eliminated many competitors

If similarly you want to integrate high end AI with your enterprise tools then AI enabled developers in Avidclan can help you to do that efficiently and at affordable cost. Our developers have mastered all kinds of AI tools that Google, Chat GPT, Claude Provides. Which helps us to deliver projects at a much faster rate than any other staffing company.

Still if you think Google does not have any data advantage then you can join this reddit discussion and check out what other people are thinking about it.

2. History and Timeline of Google AI (Gemini) vs Chat GPT and other models

Google started very late in AI and Chat GPT was very ahead of Google in LLM see the table below for the Historical release time line of different models.

Remember: There was NEVER a "ChatGPT 1" or "ChatGPT 2". ChatGPT was only released as a product after GPT-3.5 was built. Before that, OpenAI released "GPT" models that were just raw text processors (APIs) used by developers, not chat apps for the public.

Below is the full history of Open AI and Gemini with proper timeline

Year 2017:

  1. OpenAI: Started researching quietly
  2. Google: Transformer Paper Released. Google invented the "Transformer" architecture (the "T" in GPT). This is the grandfather of all modern AI models
  3. Thing to note: Google invented initial technology but OpenAI perfected it later

Year 2018:

  1. OpenAI: GPT-1 Released (June 2018) A proof-of-concept. It could read text but wasn't very smart.
  2. Google: BERT Released (Oct 2018) Google's massive breakthrough. BERT powered Google Search, understanding
  3. Things to note: Google wins 2018. BERT was used by billions in Search; GPT-1 was a niche experiment.

Year 2019:

  1. Open AI: GPT-2 Released (Feb 2019) Famous because OpenAI initially refused to release it, calling it "too dangerous" (fear of fake news). They eventually released it.
  2. Google: T5 & Meena (Internal) Google was building massive models like T5. They built a chatbot named Meena (better than GPT-2) but refused to release it due to safety rules.
  3. Things to note: OpenAI gets loud. OpenAI mastered the "hype" marketing here. Google stayed cautious/internal.

Year 2020:

  1. Open AI: GPT-3 Released (May 2020) The first "shocking" model. It could write code, poetry, and emails. Still no "ChatGPT"-Yes you heard it right you had to pay for API access.
  2. Google: LaMDA (Development) Google begins building LaMDA (Language Model for Dialogue Applications), specifically designed for chatting, unlike GPT-3 which was for text completion.
  3. Things to note: OpenAI wins developers. GPT-3 became the standard for AI startups such as Jasper, Copy.ai

Year 2021:

  1. OpenAI: InstructGPT OpenAI starts training GPT-3 to follow instructions (example, "Write a recipe") rather than just predicting text.
  2. Google: (May 2021) Sundar Pichai demos LaMDA (a planet talking to a user). It was impressive but still not public.
  3. Things to note: Anthropic was born. Key OpenAI researchers left to form Anthropic (Claude) because they felt OpenAI was getting too commercial & unsafe.

Year 2022:

  1. Open AI: Major release of ChatGPT (Nov 2022) OpenAI takes "InstructGPT," adds a chat interface, and releases it for free. History changes forever.
  2. Google: Code Red for Google. They realize they are behind on shipping products, even though they have the tech like LaMDA/PaLM.
  3. Things to note: The "Chat" Era begins.

After these Chat GPT release other chat models also released and below is the timeline of major models, where were they in the specific years compared to other models

2.1 Gemini 3.0 vs. GPT-5 and Claude 3.5: The Reasoning Gap Closes

The Gemini 3 architecture introduces a bifurcation in model design: utilizing massive Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) architectures for the "Pro" and "Ultra" lines, while deploying highly distilled, latency-optimized architectures for the "Flash" line.

What does this table indicate?

  1. Both Gemini 3 Pro and GPT 5.2 are getting the same score in high level maths reasoning.
  2. Gemini 3 Pro scores 93.8% on GPQA Diamond which is a benchmark testing for PhD level scientific knowledge so it overtakes all competitors in scientific accuracy

(This picture was taken on 2nd January 2026 as you can see no one is near Gemini 3 Pro it is beating competition by very superior margins. If you want to check more stats you can visit https://llm-stats.com/ )

2.2 Gemini 3 Flash: The Disruptor

Release of Gemini 3 Flash; I guess this is the most significant development

This model outperforms almost all rival models while costing very less and running at very high speed (means giving output very fast). In fact Gemini 3 Flash has beaten Gemini 3 Pro in technical tasks

This is the model which will help Google to cut competitors and provide enterprise level AI model services to users at very affordable costs.

2.3 The DAG Architecture (Deep Research Agents)

Now Google has a Deep research agent which means it has shifted from “Chat bot” to “Autonomous Analyst”.

Standard RAG (Retrieval Augmented Generation) performs a simple search and summarization loop but this Deep Research Agent builds DAG (Directed Acyclic Graph) of the problem

This architecture has 4 agents

  1. Planner Agent: It decomposes high-level requests into a structured research plan.
  2. Searcher Agent: It dispatches parallel sub-agents to execute targeted searches, gathering PDFs, market reports, and news articles. It can ingest up to 1 million tokens of user-uploaded data.
  3. Synthesizer Agent: It evaluates the gathered information for relevance and factual accuracy, resolving contradictions between sources before final report
  4. Steerability: The user can control the output structure, headers, and formatting, turning the agent into a customized report generator

So in conclusion what it does?

  1. Remember when you tried to do research about any project browsing hundreds of websites and papers? Which could take several hours to a few days right?
  2. This architecture of Agents allows AI to complete that report within few minutes

How did it affect competitors?

Oh! The competitors like Perplexity which does research with the use of Google search will be no more in a few years.

3. Generative Media: Veo, Nano Banana, Audio Generation

Google is dominating in video and image generation and it is very good for its creative economy app which is Youtube. Previously there were tools like Midjourney, Ideogram, Leonardo AI and others which were dominating image and video generation but since the launch of Nano Banana and Veo;Google is in the Top of the list.

3.1 Video Generation: Google Veo 3 vs. OpenAI Sora 2

I guess no one will / can compete with Google in terms of Video Generation in future, why? Because Google owns Youtube which has a nearly infinite amount of data and new data always coming in daily. If Google wants then it can train any kind of model with this data. So the future is about the data, whoever has the largest data will win the AI race. Now lets compare the current top AI Video Generators Veo 3 and OpenAI Sora 2.

(Note: There are other Chinese and Open source models available which might perform better than Veo right now. But if we talk about future Google will lead due to unrestricted amount of data)

Technical Comparison of AI Video Generators

(See the image above taken on 2nd January 2026, you will find 4 Video generation models of Google in Top 10 and out of those 4 models 2 of them are on the top beating other brands with margins of more than 150+ points.)

3.2 Image Generation: The "Nano Banana" (Gemini Image 3)

Seriously speaking, the release of “Nano Banana” was fantastic & ground breaking. Why? Because it was almost good at everything. It has reduced the work of designers up to 60% I guess. Let’s discuss what are some unique features of Nano Banana.

(This image was taken on 2nd January 2026 again if you see Google is beating all Image generation models with astonishing score of 271 with margins of more than 100 points)

  1. Text Rendering: Unlike other Image models like Ideogram, Midjourney, Qwen Image etc; Gemini’s Nano Banana was/is the only model which can generate Highly Accurate Text inside the image at the specific spot of the image. Which makes Nano Banana commercially superior for marketing & designing use cases.
  2. Speed & Integration: Many users reviewed that Nano Banana is very faster than Midjourney faster for around 3 seconds. And this 3 second gap is very large when we are comparing AI’s speed. Moreover, Google is very good at integrating this Nano Banana with other tools like Slides, Docs, Sheets, NotebookLM. This integration user can generate high quality images without leaving the tool itself.
  3. Some other features are like, It can edit multiple objects in a single image with a single prompt
  4. If you give Nano Banana a picture of a place it can highly predict the place’s actual location in real world if it is present (Google has integrated the data of Maps inside the Nano Banana)

And many more use cases which are out of the scope of this article.

4. The Geopolitical & Open Source Models’ Challenges

We thought that the biggest competitor of Google is OpenAI and Microsoft but if we see the current scenario Google and other closed source models are getting very high competition from Closed source models from China (very cheap) and the Open Source Models (particularly from China as well)

4.1 The DeepSeek: The Disruptor of Closed Source AI Models

In January 2025, One Chinese lab released its model named DeepSeek V3, which caused high level correction of Nvidia & other US Tech Stocks. Why because of the Pricing of this model and it’s innovation in Architecture and the famous reason was that it was Open Source.

  1. Price point: Deepseek V3 was priced at around $0.28 per million input tokens during that period Gemini was providing these at approximately $2 and GPT5 was higher than $2.
  2. Architectural Innovation: DeepSeek was using MoE (Mixture of Experts) and MLA (Multiple Head Latent Attention) . What that means is CHeap training of data is possible. DeepSeek was utilizing around 37 Billion active parameters out of 671 Billion total parameters, They proved that Good intelligence doesn’t require higher resources

But some how world was divided in two parts due to Geo Politics One part was Trusting these Open source CHinese Models while on the other hand due to US Government Banning these kind of Opensource Chinese models people were suspecting China and its models such as Qwen, DeepSeek, Wan etc.

5. DeepMind World Beyond Chatbots??

The difference between other Companies and Google is that Google is working beyond the Chatbots. When other companies were only focusing on chatbots Google was focusing on fundamental sectors like Science & Research. Let’s see how.

5.1 AlphaFold 3: The Biology Engine

This is the project that Google was working on for Biology related things such as Drug Discovery, Predicting interaction of molecules like (DNA, RNA, Ligands) with very high accuracy. For the commercialization Google has done partnership with Isomorphic Labs to bring AI Designed drugs to clinical trials.

5.2 GNoME Architecture and Discovery of New Materials

GNoME means Graph Network for Material Exploration; this tool is one of the significant steps forward for Chemistry. It has discovered almost 2.2 million new crystals which would have taken around 800 years, Yes you heard it right. It would have taken 800 years for human kind.

Out of these 2.2 million predictions 3,80,000 have been identified as “most stable”. These 3,80,000 are not just the on paper (theoretical) discovery. These compounds can be used for Super Conductors, Super Ionic Conductors, and Rare Earth Alternatives.
